This is a blog dedicated to my work as a DJ/Turntable artist. I have been DJing since 1993 and have been learning, earning and sharing experiences up to this present day. As of now, I consider myself a preserver of the so called art of "Turntabilism" but also an advocate of showing how amazing the art still is and still can be. Enjoy written, visual and audio experiences...
"Out of all days of the year, I love you most on Valentines Day! After that, it'll go back to normal."
Hey folks, just want to share this impromptu mix I did for anytime of the year. "4 Seasons, 4 Hearts" is a mix meant for any person that expresses love in their own way, anytime of the year. It's not just loving a person but loving life, who you are, and what makes you happy. I hope that through this mix, I express different ways of love with my selections and mixing. Peace and be good to each other! Much Love!
With this little Canon camera, I was able to get footage of some amazing material from around this globe. I know it's not the best quality but the actual content is what matters in this case. Highlighted is material from The 4onefunktion, various events (such as DMC, Skratchlounge), workshops, travels, Japan Tour, Skratchpad, and more. Sit back, enjoy, and thanks for all the support this year! Looking forward to 2012!
Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm happy to release a mix project I've been working on for awhile to you all. Titled, GRVESCRA8PER (groovescraper), this mix is meant to be an experience. A ride into a galaxy of space, funk, sound, and the unknown. Enjoy the ride...
GRVESCRA8PER Choices intended to be available to different listeners:
This past Saturday, November 26th 2011, Good Company and 4onefunk celebrated five years of throwing the 4onefunktion. It's been an amazing ride since we started it in 2006. There has been so many dope artist that's been on stage with us. Peep the flyer to see who's been down:
Before I go on, I want to thank two very important folks that make the 4onefunktion happen. My man A-Ron and Justin Boo. Without them, we wouldn't have the forum and the vision to make this event happen.
For myself, it's been a real joy to see such talented people make unbelievable things happen with sound. From the super talented DJ, producer, musician and so on, all are just a reflection of how great music and sound can be when done right. To be able to do this with my crew, 4onefunk, is an honor as well. I came up through the scene as mainly a battle DJ but being in 4onefunk and taking part in the 4onefunktion has really made me the creative, musical, DJ I am now. It's as if, I see no limits on what you can do with sound. I only want to continue that way...
Big up to the (Finger) Bangerz as well. I grew up battling these folks when I first started up (in some real heated competitive times). Shoot, I used to battle Teeko as well but to be able to be doing things along with my peers is truly humbling. I'm very happy for all their success.
In case you missed the event, here is the a chunk of it.
Hey guys! Sorry for the delay on the blog. It's been a while since I posted an entry but I'm glad that I can post to you guys now! If you didn't know, I went on my first tour and it was something else to say the least. It started off from a "Kick off" show at San Francisco's Skratchpad, the 2011 DMC USA Finals in New York, and then to Japan for the Positive Omen Tour. Ever since I've been back, I've been busy with life so now I can share my experience with you all!
2011 DMC USA Finals
Congrats to DJ Vajra who took 1st place at this years DMC USA Finals! He had a really good set just as a DJ! Sometimes simple is better than technical and he utilized his skills and today's technology perfectly that night. The highlight of the night was being back stage with the other judges and Christie Z saying, "This is DJ Cheese!" I totally was like, "What the...your DJ Cheese!" Truly a blessing to meet him, be a judge, and to showcase at the highest level for the most decorated DJ Battle running in the world.
Positive Omen Japan Tour 2011 Part 1
Positive Omen Japan Tour Part 2
After New York, I took a flight all the way to Japan for a tour I did with DJs Quest, DnZ, and Alf. I haven't been on the road like this so I really didn't know what to expect. Japan is another world, another mindset, another sense of being. The whole time I was there, I was just in awe and it felt surreal. The tour itself consisted of five different cities within a weeks span. We went from Shibuya-Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Okinawa, back up to Roppongi-Tokyo, and finally ended in Shibuya-Tokyo. I'll say there was a lot of traveling (taxi, train, bullet train, plane), carrying a lot of luggage and merchandise, and of course hella DJing!
Me in Roppongi
Big shout out to all that helped make this tour possible for me! Christie-Z, Tyron Daniels, Positive Omen, Skratchpad, 4onefunk, and anyone else I may have forgotten!
Hey Folks! Peace and Blessings! It's been awhile since I've posted a blog so I wanted to start off by saying I've been busy with DJ life, summer school, and my close homies getting married (Congrats Carlo & Rey!)
Anyway, after all the mayhem, there is more! I'm going on tour! First leg is gonna be a "Kick-Off" show in San Francisco's Rockit Room for Skratchpad. The day after, I fly to New York for the DMC USA Finals as a judge and I'm doing a set as well.
Finally, I'll be flying straight from New York to Japan for "The Positive Omen" Tour from August 8th-14th. The tour will feature DJs. Alf of Hip Hop Slam, DnZ of The Amazing Zoo Crew, Quest of Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters, and myself, Mista-B of 4onefunk. The tour is meant to be a Tsunami benefit for all the people that has suffered in Japan due to all the tragedies. It's also meant to inspire folks with music.
The art of "Beat Juggling" is one that is one of the the most creative things to do in the realm of Hip Hop DJing. It can start from learning how to mix, scratch, and rocking doubles. How far it goes depends on how you move with the music. It's an "open ended" art and there are no specific rules to it. All you got to do is make it sound nice!

In an interview I did with DJ Shortkut for Mixcrate, I asked him his feelings about the art. Below is a link to listen and download. This is an educational piece that is meant to inform, engage, and inspire DJ enthusiast. Enjoy!
